Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of the Budiman Chambers website at budimanc.sbs and the basis on which legal and advisory services are provided by the Firm. By using this website or submitting an intake enquiry, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these terms.
Budiman Chambers is a law firm regulated under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and subject to the Rules and Rulings of the Malaysian Bar. The Firm provides legal services in the area of consumer protection law, with practitioners admitted to the Malaysian Bar.
1. Use of This Website
This website is provided for general informational purposes and to facilitate contact with the Firm. Nothing on this website constitutes legal advice. Reading the content of this website, or submitting an intake form, does not create a solicitor-client relationship.
A solicitor-client relationship arises only when the Firm has issued a formal letter of engagement, both parties have agreed to the scope and terms of the engagement in writing, and any requisite client due-diligence steps have been completed.
You agree to use this website only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others. You must not submit false or misleading information through any form on this website.
2. Intake Submissions
The Receipt Intake form is provided as a way for prospective clients to describe a consumer matter for preliminary review. On receiving a completed intake, a practitioner will review the information and provide a brief written note on potential pathways — whether before the Tribunal for Consumer Claims, in Sessions or High Court proceedings, or through other channels.
This written note is a general orientation, not legal advice. It does not represent the Firm's formal view on the merits of a claim, and it does not create any obligation on the Firm to accept an engagement or on you to proceed. Where the matter appears to fall outside the Firm's scope or current capacity, we will indicate so clearly.
Information submitted through the intake form is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
3. Scope of Legal Services
The Firm's services are described on this website by way of illustration. The precise scope of any engagement is set out in a written engagement letter, which governs the relationship to the exclusion of any general description on this website.
Services available through the Firm include:
- Representation before the Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia (Tribunal for Consumer Claims Representation — from RM 1,500)
- Civil claims representation in Sessions Court or High Court in consumer matters (Civil Claims Against Sellers, Service Providers & Platforms — from RM 2,800)
- Consumer protection advisory for businesses (Sectoral Advisory for Consumer-Facing Businesses — from RM 5,200)
Fees quoted on this website are indicative starting points. Final fees depend on the specific scope of work and are set out in the engagement letter. The Firm will not commence billable work without a signed engagement letter and receipt of any agreed retainer.
4. Fees and Payment
The Firm's fees are disclosed in writing before any engagement commences. Where an indicative fee range is quoted during the intake process, this is subject to revision following a full review of the matter. Billing arrangements, payment schedules, and disbursements are detailed in the engagement letter.
Unpaid fees may give rise to a right to cease acting or to exercise a solicitor's lien over documents, in accordance with Malaysian legal practice rules. The Firm will always endeavour to raise billing concerns before matters reach that point.
5. No Guarantee of Outcome
The Firm does not represent that any particular outcome can be achieved in any matter. Consumer claims — whether before the Tribunal or in civil proceedings — involve adjudicatory discretion that cannot be predicted in advance. The Firm will advise on the strengths and weaknesses of a matter honestly, and will update its assessment as facts develop. No statement made on this website or in preliminary correspondence should be read as a representation of likely success.
6. Intellectual Property
All content on this website — including text, design, layout, and document templates — is the property of Budiman Chambers or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or adapt any content from this website without prior written consent from the Firm, except to the extent permitted by law for personal, non-commercial use.
7. Third-Party Links
This website may contain links to external resources, including the Tribunal for Consumer Claims portal, Malaysian Bar resources, and regulatory guidance. These links are provided for convenience only. The Firm does not endorse or take responsibility for the content of external websites.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, the Firm's liability in connection with the use of this website or the provision of services is limited as described in the relevant engagement letter. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
The Firm is not liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on general information on this website, technical interruptions to website availability, or the conduct of third-party service providers not within the Firm's control.
9. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising in connection with these terms or the use of this website is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
10. Amendments
The Firm may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with an updated effective date. Where changes are material, we will note this on the website. Continued use of the website after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
